CARMICHAEL, CA (MPG) - Home to nearly a dozen Mexican restaurants, Carmichael last week rolled out red, white and green flags for Cinco de Mayo.

Mariachis blared, dancers spun, margaritas flowed and south-of-the-border cuisine was the flavor-of-the-day.

Later in the week, Carmichael Park hosted a taco fest, with vendors competing for People’s Choice and Judges’ awards.

Latino flavor continued in the annual Taste of Carmichael event, with several Mexican eateries offering tasty samples at the La Sierra Community Center.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates Mexico’s 1862 victory over French armies at the Battle of Puebla.

Competing taco vendors in Carmichael Park are from left, Giovanni Guigulfo, (Senor Burger); Andres Yanez (Yolanda’s Tamales); Alejandra Monroy (Santacos); and Nonelly Aguilar (Taqueria Sinajal). The People’s Choice award goes to Santacos and Yolanda’s Tamales wins the Judge’s award.
