Asking for Your Vote for Honorary Mayor
I’m Austin Schlocker and it is an honor to be running for Honorary Mayor of Carmichael 2018. I was born at Kaiser on Morse Avenue in Sacramento and raised in Carmichael, near Ancil Hoffman Park; It was a great experience spending summers in the park and attending camps at Effie Yeaw Nature Center.
I attended El Camino high school, playing sports and participating in student government. I continued to Los Rios Community College District where I lead the Sacramento City College Business Club before transferring and graduating Cum Laude with my bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from Sacramento State University. I am a proud Sacramentan and even prouder Carmichael resident.
But this election isn’t about me; when I was younger, just over 2 decades ago, Carmichael was a much more vibrant and wholesome community. We have seen businesses close, neighborhoods change, crime rates increase, homelessness increase, and much more. I am running for this position because I desperately want to see us work back towards prosperity.
As an ambassador for the Carmichael Chamber of Commerce, I know that working with business owners is paramount for the success of our community. I fully believe in the Chamber’s mission statement, “Business and community members joining together in networking, advocacy and education.” Our Chamber and community is unique, we are one of the few Chamber’s that allow residents to participate in our vision.
Business owners and residents need more opportunities to work together and solve community issues. I propose creating an Honorary Mayor Newsletter so that I can connect with business owners and residents at least once a month to advise on important community issues.
I also want to create educational workshops for business owners and residents to attend that cover important topics such as taxation, marketing, regional issues, and more. As a small business owner, I understand the challenge of staying informed on everything that can affect my community, industry, business, and life. We need a Mayor that is concerned with keeping our members up to date on these vital concerns.
I can’t win this election by myself. I have been door knocking and meeting with Chamber members to discuss how I can better serve our community; I have many ideals and strategies on how we can improve business and our community as a whole—but these are just thoughts without the support to implement them.
If you like my ideals, if you want to see Carmichael succeed, we need to work together. You can sponsor my campaign through a tax-deductible donation, raffle donations, buying a ticket from me for our upcoming Mayoral Mingle, and more. Please email your questions about my campaign to firstname.lastname@example.org; I look forward to speaking with you!
