The Big 8 Conference recently announced the 2016 All-Conference award winners for fall sports, with nine Folsom Lake College student-athletes earning their place among the best in the conference.  The 2016 Big 8 co-championship women’s soccer team heads the list with five All-Conference honorees, while men’s soccer and women’s volleyball each claimed one 1st team and one 2nd team award winner each.

Women’s Soccer

From women’s soccer, forwards Hannah O’Donnell (sophomore) and Keionna Claypoole (freshman), sophomore midfielders Karina Torres and Allie Miller, and freshman defender Mia Evans were all named to the All-Conference team.  Claypoole and Torres led the Falcons in scoring with 12 goals apiece, while Torres and Miller led the team in assists with 11 and 10, respectively.  Also announced recently was the California Community College Coaches Association All-Region team, which included four Falcons: Mia Evans, Hannah O’Donnell, Karina Torres, and freshman defender Megan Trent. Congratulations all!

Men’s Soccer

On the men’s soccer team, sophomore forward/mid/defender/Swiss army knife Lee Barclay earned a 1st team All-Conference selection.  Lee’s willingness and ability to play any position was not just a big help to the team, but was instrumental in his selection by the Big 8.  Lee will be transferring to UC Davis next fall.  Freshman midfielder Luis Aguilar was named to the All-Conference 2nd team after starting 20 games for the Falcons and was another multi-positional player for the team.  At times, Luis played at center defender, outside mid, and attacking midfielder, depending on where he was needed.

Women’s Volleyball

It is no surprise that Falcon volleyball standout Kylie Haverson was named to the Big 8 All-Conference 1st team.  Kylie finished second in the conference in kills with 398 (just 6 behind the leader) while also ranking ninth in digs with 331.  Her all-around play helped propel the Falcons to the second round of the state playoffs.  Sophomore Libero (defensive specialist) Alexis Mauck was named to the All-Conference 2nd team after finishing fourth in digs with 481.  Alexis was “…undeniably the team leader for us,” according to head coach Matt Torrez.  She is currently weighing her options while in the process of deciding where she will attend school and play next year.

Congratulations to these All-Conference honorees!
