Hundreds of children and their parents came from near and far on December 1 to celebrate the first Citrus Heights Christmas tree lighting at the new Citrus Heights City Hall. The new (forever) Christmas tree is permanently planted near the main entrance to the city hall.

The American, state and city flags, and the sparkling two tiered lighted fountain provided the backdrop for the opening festivities. The Citrus Heights Community Marching Band set the tone for the evening with its traditional selection of invigorating holiday melodies. Master of Ceremonies Jingle Julie again welcomed attendees and introduced Mayor Jeff Slowey who greeted all and introduced members of City Council. City Manager Christopher Boyd said a few words and introduced Police Chief Ron Lawrence, his successor to that position. Lawrence introduced himself and thanked his traffic team for the efficient parking of the steady stream of vehicles to this event.

Missing from the new format was Santa arriving in his carriage, and the ambiance of all the activities taking place in one room. One young attendee, eleven-year-old Hailey, said she missed being inside and being able to sit down with her hot chocolate to watch the marching band.  Some of the indoor activities were replaced with outdoor carnival booths and a favorite of all, the human snow globe bounce house.

Most participants did return including the Ambassadors and Princesses led by Tamara Barbu-Brown, the photogenic characters from the Nutcracker and the popular train, taking riders on a brisk tour around the building.  And of course, the cookies, hot cider and cocoa for those hungry and thirsty celebrators.

Santa posed for pictures in his cozy new living room setting in the city hall foyer.

Parking was surprisingly painless as the Citrus Heights Police Department smoothly guided drivers into one of the many parking spaces surrounding the new building. Sponsors for the event were Republic Services, Sunrise Marketplace and Sunrise Mall.
