Mather Neighborhood Partners with County to Benefit Schoolchildren and Community

RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - On Thursday, September 26, the Mather Alliance, a neighborhood group who advocates for responsible use and management of Mather Field resources, plans to publicly celebrate their successful partnership with Sacramento County Regional Parks to protect the natural resources of the Illa Collin Mather Vernal Pool Preserve in the southeast area of Sacramento County. This event, open to the public, will be held outdoors at the preserve, which offers many unique and visible aspects of the preservation effort that not only benefits the preserve’s habitats, but it also benefits fourth and fifth graders who learn about Mather’s vernal pools through the Sacramento Splash education program.

The event will be at 10 to 11 a.m. and will showcase the success story with ribbon-cutting ceremony; Present an excellence award Mather Park Ranger Luevano; Show off Sacramento Regional Parks’ Dual Sport Motorcycles; Feature one of Sacramento Splash’s rescued preserve critters as well as a display of student’s expressions of appreciation of Splash’s science classroom: The Mather Vernal Pools; Enjoy refreshments; Wrap with our keynote speaker, Sacramento County Supervisor Don Notolli, who will acknowledge the ongoing successful partnership of Sacramento County and the Mather community to protect the Mather preserve

Those present at the preserve will include Supervisor Don Nottoli; Regional Parks Director, Liz Bellas; Regional Parks Superintendent, Cid Nieto; Park Rangers Luevano and Piazza and Sergeant Marzan

You will also have the opportunity to meet the Mather Alliance core team, hundreds of Mather Alliance members, Sacramento Splash staff and their preserve advocate contacts, including Eva Butler, the founder who was instrumental in arranging to designate the Mather wetlands as a preserve, Mather area residents and other Mather preserve advocates
