CARMICHAEL, CA (MPG) - Allow me to begin this story by mentioning what an integral role Clark and Carolyn play in our close knit Carmichael community. Individually, they are humble, kind and instantaneously likeable by all who meet them. And if you ever have the privilege of seeing them walk into a room to greet each other: Their eyes light up and they reach for each other as if they have been apart ages, promptly followed by “sweet nothings”. It truly melts even the strongest of hearts each and every time it is witnessed. It is clear these two are the dearest of friends, still delighting in the company of one another. I often tell them that their story would rival any Hollywood movie. These two have that rare, true love that inspires us all, and together, this is their story…

Clark and Carolyn met in Oakland, California when she was 14 years old, and he 16. At that time he was the neighborhood paperboy. She started to notice he would follow her home at a distance to make certain she was safe. One day, she finally managed to say “hello”, much to his surprise, nearly falling off his bike but from there they were able to strike up a conversation. From that day on, he started walking her home nearly every single day. They were together through those formative years, Clark eventually upgrading from a bicycle to a Ford Model A, and going off to college. All too soon, World War II came with Clark enlisting, becoming a distinguished fighter pilot. Together, they decided their love worth risking it all. At times weeks would pass without word about Clark. During this trying time Carolyn leaned on the support of her family and friends, most of which had been her bridesmaids and went on to remain lifelong friends.

They made it through WWII and took turns supporting each other through college, career and raising a family. Together, that was their stronghold, sharing the same morals and goal: to raise a good family.

When asked what Carolyn thought was Clark’s most endearing quality, the one that she loves him the most for, even after all these years, she said it was the simple fact that he is a great man, a wonderful husband and father. Often being the one to get up in the middle of their night to soothe their daughter Susie when she was a fussy newborn; She fondly recalls seeing him dancing with her in the middle of the night as he calmed her woes.

When prompted for advice on how to maintain a happy marriage that surpasses the test of time, Carolyn mentioned the importance of mutual respect, making your family your priority, and not going to bed angry. When asked what family tradition she thought was most important, she stated the importance of having quality family meals not only with immediate family, but extended family as well.

We couldn’t agree more. We adore you, Clark and Carolyn! Happy Valentine’s Day.
