BIGGS, CA (MPG) - The shorthanded Biggs Wolverines struggled against the Colusa RedHawks in a 32-0 loss Friday night.

The loss brought Biggs record to 1-3 on the year and Wolverines coach Brian Harrison was happy with the way his players fought.

“We didn’t give up and played four quarters of football,” Harrison told The Gridley Herald.

He added even though it was evident the win was out of reach, his players continued to play hard.

Biggs has 19 players on its roster this season and has 187 total students enrolled in the school according to publicschoolreview.com.

Harrison told the Herald that he suited up 16 players in the game Friday.

“We had a good showing from our offensive line and our defensive ends have improved from the beginning of the season,” Harrison explained.

Harrison said he wants to see his team be more consistent moving the ball with multiple plays of positive yardage. The Wolverines offense runs through junior quarterback Chase Mclean. Mclean has completed 20 total passes for 283 yards during the first four games of the season along with 46 rushing yards. Harrison told The Herald that Mclean is a hard worker and shows great leadership for his teammates.

Sophomore running back Davis Long is the leading rusher for Biggs this season with 56 carries for 328 yards. Long is a three-sport athlete and Harrison said when he took over the head coaching position in February, Long attended all workouts in the spring even though he was playing another sport at the time.

Harrison joked that Long is a gym rat and when other athletes try and get in the weight room with him, they’re going to be waiting because Long is in there working hard. On the defensive side of the ball for the Wolverines, senior defensive lineman Johnny Williams is the team leader with three sacks on the season. Harrison is 100% committed to the community and school in Biggs.

“It’s my place to make young men in the Biggs community better people,” Harrison said.

He added that it’s important to him that his team takes pride from where they are from.

The Wolverines will play the Trinity Wolves twice in a six-day period that begins tomorrow, Saturday October 1, in a home game followed by a road game on October 7 in Weaverville. Harrison said that one of their earlier scheduled games in Reno, Nevada was cancelled due to the smoke from the recent wildfires.

“Trinity called and said they had lost a game due to the fire in Weed and asked if we would be interested in playing back-to-back games,” Harrison recalled.

Everyone agreed and the game tomorrow will be a non-league contest and the game a week later will be the first league game in the Mid-Valley. Harrison told The Herald that he wants to see four complete quarters of football in Biggs’ next game.
