California Capital International Documentary Film Festival Announced
Aug 17, 2023 12:00AM ● By City of Rancho Cordova News ReleaseRANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The 2nd Annual California Capital International Documentary Film Festival will be held on September 30 and October 1, 2023, in Rancho Cordova.
The festival will take place at three screening locations: Rancho Cordova City Hall Council Chambers and The American River Room, 2729 Prospect Park Drive, Rancho Cordova, and Cal Cap Black Box Theatre, 9845 Horn Road, Sacramento.
This year’s program includes over 90 percent of films selected from the festivals open call, with submissions coming from 43 countries. The documentaries explore a wide range of themes including, art, politics, portraits, poverty, social issues, homelessness, sports, environmental crisis, war, world traditions, and the dynamic nature of our changing world.
The lineup will consist of feature and short documentaries that will include world and U.S. premiers.
Additionally, three locally made documentaries will be featured. They include: N-Men: The Untold Story, Rancho Cordova: From the Gold Rush to the Space Age, and Auburn Dam: The Dam That Never Was.
The festival aims to provide an international program to local audiences and will feature screenings in cinematic 6k with surround sound. The Mills Station Arts and Cultural Center (MACC) will serve as the festival hub for networking and filmmaker discussions.
We are proud to honor the talented filmmakers who have poured their passion into creating exceptional documentaries that shed light on diverse subjects from around the world. Below are the categories of this year's festival:
The Belka & Hagin Family Award for "Best Doc of Festival" - $1,000; The KP International Market Award for "Best Foreign Film" - $500; The SMUD award for "Best Short Documentary" - $250; The California Capital Arts Foundation Award for "Most Interesting Documentary Subject" - $250.
The 2022 California Capital International Film Festival awarded honorariums in the following categories:
