NORTHERN CALIFORNIA (MPG) - SAFE Credit Union recently participated in a back-to-school supplies and backpack drive benefiting the Sacramento Children’s Home for students in elementary, middle, and high school.

In total, SAFE employees and members donated 169 filled backpacks and three large bins filled with supplies.

SAFE is a not-for-profit, state-chartered credit union with membership open to businesses and individuals living or working in Yolo, Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, Sutter, Butte, Nevada, Solano, San Joaquin, Contra Costa, Yuba, Amador and Alameda counties.

The back-to-school drive initiative was based on SAFE’s philanthropic mission that includes supporting education initiatives and programs for underserved communities. The Sacramento Children’s Home provides services to more than 7,000 children and 4,300 families each year.

“We love these sorts of activities that get our members and employees involved to help out a good cause,” said SAFE Credit Union Vice-President of Retail Branches Janine Southwick.

SAFE Credit Union Vice-President of Community Relations Rebecca Delmundo said, "SAFE has a history of helping the Sacramento Children’s Home through donations and volunteerism. They are doing good work in helping kids and families during tough times. At SAFE, we’re honored to be able to do our part to help support their mission.”

SAFE’s efforts were part of a larger community school supplies drive for the nonprofit.

“This year, the community has rallied together to provide over 2,200 backpacks filled with school supplies to children and families served by the Sacramento Children’s Home. Something as simple as a new backpack can make a big difference for the kids in our community. These donations help kids start their school year with a boost of confidence that can set them on a path to success,” said Sacramento Children’s Home Director of Philanthropy Todd Koolakian.
