CARMICHAEL, CA (MPG) – Nov. 1 heralded the most drama-free election day of the month.
Voting results, announced Hollywood-style from sealed envelopes, came from weeks of polling among local businesses and supporters. The Oscar theme continued with red carpets, glittering backdrops and tuxedos on folk more often seen in overalls.
“It was a change from being up to my elbows in grease,” noted Buck Family Auto Shop co-owner Jeff Buck, event emcee. “I’ve never had so many approving glances from the ladies.”
Cheers greeted winners in 70 service categories. Carmichael Chamber of Commerce President Rosie Buck noted the 2024 contest drew more participation than in previous years.
“Almost 20,00 people voted this time,” Buck said. “Skip’s Kitchen was top (single-category) vote-winner this year, with more than 600 votes. Several businesses got awards in more than one category. We were pleased so many first-time winners emerged, as well as our veteran victors.”
The sold-out gala crammed the La Sierra Center and included a VIP list of rock stars and elected officials.
“It’s one of my favorite events,” enthused county Supervisor Rich Desmond. “It’s wonderful to see the community come together to recognize small businesses and organizations that make Carmichael such a special place.”
Although community kudos and proclamations were the only victory spoils, the winners’ delight was effervescent.
SMUD director Heidi Sanborn hit the stage with a happy dance as the utility district claimed “Best Utility Services.”
Seven staffers from Montessori Village School greeted their “Best Preschool” win with a red-carpet conga line.
Skip’s Kitchen rejoiced in a glittering door prize, a $1,500 pair of earrings, donated by Aquamarine Jewelers.
Best of Carmichael is presented by the Carmichael Times and Carmichael Chamber of Commerce. For a list of the winners and for more more information about the event, go online to BestofCarmichael.com.
