CARMICHAEL, CA (MPG) - In the third groundbreaking this year for Carmichael Recreation and Park District projects, staffers and VIPs shoveled dirt at Carmichael Park last week.

The ceremony initiated more than $1.6 million in upgrades for the district’s flagship reserve.

Upgrades include new toddler play facilities; restrooms; a shade structure for tennis players; pickleball courts and resurfaced roads. Bike racks, benches and drinking fountains will also augment amenities. The combined projects should be completed before next January.

More Carmichael Recreation and Park District projects are pending or in progress throughout the district. Glancy Oaks Park will soon have a modernized play area and an upgraded basketball. The 70-year-old La Sierra Community Center will shine with re-engineered sports fields and building infrastructure.

Presenters are Natalya Sachuk (left) for Assemblyman Josh Hoover, Mika Klinsmann for Senator Roger Niello, Matt Cecatto for Congressman Ami Bera and Iris Austin for Sacramento County Supervisor Rich Desmond.

Enabled by the 2022 Measure G bond issue that achieved $32 million for the park district, improvements are also planned for Bird Track, Patriots, Cardinal Oaks, Jan, Del Campo and O’Donnell Heritage parks.

“We’re proud to bring these projects to life with the trust and support of Carmichael,” said Carmichael Recreation and Park District Administrator Stacey Yankee. “We can’t wait to see how the improvements will bring the community closer.”
