CARMICHAEL, CA (MPG) - Running until Oct. 25 at the Sacramento Fine Arts Center in Carmichael, the “Bold Expressions” show exhibits more than 100 works. All artists are Northern California Arts Inc. members.

Among the award winners was Belinda Hanson, a Carmichael painter. Hanson recently moved to the area from Dunsmuir in Siskiyou County and had two abstract works accepted for the prestigious exhibition. Hanson’s acrylic and collage canvas, “Time Crashing,” was given an Award of Excellence.

“It’s a nice welcome to Carmichael,” said the grandmother of four. “One of the reasons I love being here (is) having the opportunity to be part of an artistic community.”

Northern Californian Arts Inc was founded in 1939 and is among the oldest organizations supporting West Coast artists. Northern Californian Arts Inc’s annual “Bold Expressions” event offers more than $3,000 in cash and gift awards.

This year’s judge was Grass Valley painter Linda Galusha, who awarded Amelia Billagomez Best of Show laurels. The Yuba City artist’s prize for an acrylic work, “Buying Time,” was $1,000.

Submissions for the show came from as far away as Florida, Texas and Hawaii.

“We’ve been doing this for 70 years,” said Gregory Smith, show chairman. “It’s a quality show to be accepted for. We’re always delighted by the many artists who respond and by community interest in their work.”

The “Bold Expressions” show continues until Oct. 25. Most works are available for purchase. Sacramento Fine Arts Center is located at 5330B Gibbons Drive.
