CARMICHAEL, CA (MPG) – More than 350 pups and their humans gathered at Carmichael Park on Oct. 18 for the annual “Barktoberfest,” hosted by the Carmichael Recreation and Park District in partnership with the Carmichael Parks Foundation.
Attendees enjoyed games, agility demonstrations, vendor booths, food trucks and a spirited pet costume contest that drew more than 22 dog-and-human duos.
First place went to “The Ladies of Barkgerton,” a pack of stylish Shiba Inus dressed in full Regency-era flair.

Elvis the dog came in second, rocking rhinestones and rock-’n’-roll attitude, while Enzo the Frenchman earned third, complete with beret and scarf.
This year’s event featured participation from more than 15 local vendors and nonprofit organizations, thanks to the energy of volunteers and support from hosts.
“Barktober is one of those events that brings out everything we love about our community: fun, connection and our parks,” said Rosie Buck, president of the Chamber of Commerce and a board member of the Carmichael Parks Foundation. “Seeing hundreds of dogs and families enjoying Carmichael Park reminds us why we invest in our public spaces.”

Sponsorship from Buck Family Automotive, All Stage Canine Development, Kerri Mandes Fitness and Villara played a critical role, as did the annual backing of Buck Family Automotive, Sacramento County Supervisor Rich Desmond, the Kiwanis Club of Carmichael and the Carmichael Parks Foundation.
Proceeds benefit the Carmichael Parks Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing local recreation spaces, community programs and youth scholarships. To learn more or to donate, visit online at carmichaelparksfoundation.org.
