CARMICHAEL, CA (MPG) - Business and service professionals celebrated the annual Best of Carmichael contest last week.

More than 300 revelers packed the La Sierra Center to applaud winners. Presented by the Carmichael Chamber of Commerce, the contest raises funds for the chamber’s community programs.

The contest fielded 70 categories for 530 contenders. On-line votes totaled more than 15,000.

A Willie Wonka theme festooned the event with chocolate waterfalls, top hats and cavorting oompa loompas.

From churches to attorneys, from youth to senior programs, the contest celebrated varied enterprises that make Carmichael tick. Best Senior Services was won by In Your Home Care Services. Fair Oaks Family Taekwondo nailed Best Youth Sports. Carmichael Presbyterian Church was praised as Best House of Worship. Carmichael Recreation and Park District romped off with wins in six categories.

Though bragging rights are winners’ only rewards, Favorite Teacher’ (California Montessori Project’s Alma Gallegos) earned a $700 check.

Mike Rockenstein (center) is announced Honorary Mayor for 2026. The victor joins fellow candidates Martin Ross (front left) Lilia Darbinyan and Haley Maco. Also celebrating: Assemblyman Josh Hoover’s rep. Mark Cullum (back left) Supervisor Rich Desmond, Chamber Director Brad Sanborn and Congressman Ami Bera’s rep. Matt Ceccato.

A glittering door prize included restaurant vouchers, donated by the Milagro Centre. The culinary hub's owners Allan and Susan Davis won votes for ‘Best Date Night’ location.

Following a dinner catered by Cantina Azteca, (winner of Best Tacos laurels), a cake and cookie auction continued fundraising.

A surprise announcement revealed Carmichael’s 2026 Honorary Mayor contest victor. Business consultant Mike Rockestein will wear the coveted sash. Rockenstein’s campaign benefitted the First Tee of Sacramento, a golfing program for youth.

“This was truly our best Best of Carmichael, yet,” said Carmichael Chamber of Commerce President Rosie Buck. “I was thrilled by the number of winners who attended.”
