CARMICHAEL, CA (MPG) – Toes will tap for a senior Valentine’s concert and dance in La Sierra Community Center on Feb. 13.
Carmichael Kiwanis Club’s Big Band will present romantic waltzes, ballads and lively swing tunes. The pride of its organization, the 18-piece ensemble comprises the world’s only Kiwanis Club band.
Musicians range from 20 to 80-plus years old.
“It’s a diverse volunteer group,” said bandleader/trumpeter Michael Koons.
“Our repertoire ranges from 1940s standards to contemporary numbers. We mainly play community gigs. Anything we earn goes to our club. We’re certain everyone will have a great time at our Valentines concert - whether they’re dancing or just listening.”
Anyone can attend the Feb. 13 bash. Seniors and friends of any age may dance or applaud from table seating. A $5 admission includes light refreshments; 50 percent of proceeds supports the Kiwanis Club. Downbeat is at 1:30 p.m.; last dance is at 3:30 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased at www.carmichaelpark.com or at the event. La Sierra Community Center is located at 5325 Engle Road, Carmichael and parking is free. Sponsors include Carmichael Recreation and Park District; Carmichael Parks Foundation; Oakmont of Carmichael; Buck family Automotive; Kiwanis Club of Carmichael; Supervisor Rich Desmond.
