CARMICHAEL, CA (MPG) – With a bundle of new amenities recently provided by Measure G funding, Carmichael Park users can witness their tax dollars at work.

An April 17 ceremony dedicated pickleball courts, restrooms, a shade structure and new toddler play facilities at Carmichael’s most central park. These combined projects cost more than $1.6 million.

Asphalt has been replaced in the Farmers Market area. Further repaving will be part of the next improvement phase.

“I think we can all agree that saying goodbye to potholes is something worth celebrating,” Park District Advisory Board Chair Chris Ives told a crowd of 50 park supporters.

The most commended improvement, noted Ives, were restrooms near park racket courts.

“We’ve received more compliments on these than I ever expected,” he said. The three-stall facility cost more than $297,000.

Ives’ speech was punctuated by the steady thwack of balls on paddles. New pickleball courts were already in play. Enjoyed by athletes of all ages, the sport is among the fastest growing in America. Carmichael’s six courts were carved from a pre-existing tennis area. At courtside, a roofed structure enables seating and shade.

Legislative staffers sample new pickleball courts in Carmichael Park. Armed with paddles are Kendra Johnson, Mika Klinnsmann, Marco Espinosa and Lane Gonick.

New play structures near Grant Avenue are equipped with rubberized surfaces to ensure toddler safety. An ADA ramp improves access to veterans Memorial Hall.

“These are not just upgrades,” said CRPD District Administrator Stacey Yankee.  “They’re meaningful enhancements that ensure our parks serve everyone – families, children, seniors and future generations. These projects are designed to bring people together; strengthen our sense of community and make it an even better place to live, work and play.”

Voted into effect in 2022, the Measure G bond initiative achieved almost $32 million for CRPD. improvement of many reserves will result. These include Clancy Oaks, Cardinal Oaks, Jan, O’Donnell, Bird Track, Patriots and Del Campo parks and La Sierra Community Center.
