CARMICHAEL, CA (MPG) - When golf fanatic Adam Johnson launched his company 13 year ago, the former bank manager was driving for increased fitness in his beloved sport.
“After some health issues, I'd got into fitness,” he recalled. “I stopped smoking, started eating healthy and exercising. I also wanted a change in career. I built on the idea of improving golfers' games and their fitness. Players are usually trying to stay healthy or want to improve their game. Many are dealing with repetitive-use injuries.”
What might have seemed a longshot for the Fair Oaks resident is now a flyer. Golf Fitness Solutions recently added 1300 square ft of operating space to its Manzanita Avenue facility. A June 13 Carmichael Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting marked the occasion.
The business offers tuition; a fitness center; a simulator cage and therapy for aches that go hand-in-glove with swinging irons. Staff includes two golf trainers, a massage therapist; an assisted-stretching expert and a nutritionist.

Staff, family and Carmichael Chamber of Commerce members join the party.“Our clients range from beginners to PGA professionals,” says the boss. “They’re aged from 18 to 90. Senior players need to keep mobility, balance and strength. There’s an old golf saying that the worst round you'll ever play is the one that you can’t.”
Johnson started golfing at seven years old. His wife and son have not joined the club. “It’s a game frequently played by masochists,” he conceded. “Neither Keller nor Cameron seem to have that trait.”
Supporting First Tee of Sacramento, a non-profit whose golf programs assist youth development, is nevertheless a shared drive for the family.
“Helping First Tee is our way to give back for everything golf has given us.” Johnson explained. “That includes my career, my livelihood and many valuable friendships.”
To this end, his company hosts an annual poker night fundraiser. In five years, this event has raised more than $200,000. Anyone may join the Golf Fitness Solutions Poker Tournament at Northridge Country Club in Fair Oaks on August 8.
