SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) – Celebrating 25 years of empowering Sacramento women and children to rise from homelessness, Women’s Empowerment will hold its Silver Anniversary Gala on Sept. 25. Tickets and sponsorships are available for the event that will take place at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento, 1230 J St. at 5:30 p.m.

“This year’s Gala will be extra meaningful as we celebrate 25 years of empowering Sacramento women to transform their lives, strengthen their families and build a stronger community,” said Lisa Culp, founding executive director, Women’s Empowerment.

“When I worked with women experiencing homelessness to create this program 25 years ago, we had no idea the hurdles we would face – a recession, pandemic and housing crisis. Yet we also never imagined that together we would help more than 2,000 women and their 4,000 children rise above these hurdles. As we come together for our Silver Anniversary Gala, we will celebrate this transformation and raise critical funds to address the new and evolving needs of women facing homelessness in Sacramento,” Culp said.

Women’s Empowerment is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year as the most comprehensive job-readiness program in the Sacramento area designed specifically to help women break the generational cycle of homelessness for themselves and their children.

Each woman begins with a nine-week employment-readiness and empowerment program that includes free transportation assistance, onsite childcare, group classes and one-on-one work with a social worker, housing navigator, job developer and volunteer career mentor. Each woman who graduates from the nine-week program can return for services at any point in her life when she needs additional tools, including paid job training and transitional workforce housing. 

Since 2001, more than 2,000 women have graduated from the program with their 4,000-plus children. Women’s Empowerment is funded through private donations from the community and grants. To learn more and make a donation visit www.womens-empowerment.org.
