SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) – Ancil Hoffman Park in Carmichael closed Sunday, Sept. 20 following a “major vandalism event,” according to Sacramento County Regional Parks.

Damage to the park included more than ten lampposts knocked over, resulting in live power lines in the park. The county brought in SMUD to de-energize the park to avoid electrical hazards, said Ken Casparis, a spokesperson with Sacramento County.

The park’s bathrooms and signage throughout the park also received significant damage.

The park's golf course and the Effie Yeaw Nature Center, which will hold its Golden Jubilee gala on Oct. 4, were temporarily closed but have since reopened.

As of press time, the rest of the park remains closed due to clean-up efforts. It is not known at this time who committed the vandalism. Regional park officials told KCRA 3 that rangers are investigating the incident.

Ancil Hoffman Park is located at 6700 Tarshes Drive, Carmichael.
