Clinicians Richard Howell and Tevis Laukat (third and fourth from left) met dozens of musicians during their recent visit to Tim's Music in Carmichael. Fans included Stephen Esquivi (left), store owner Scott Mandeville, Nate Makus and Hadean Unninayar Steck.

CARMICHAEL, CA (MPG) - Tim’s Music last week hosted its first major clinic since pandemic restrictions nixed educational gatherings in 2020.

Drawcards were famed saxophone artist Richard Howell and instrument maker Tevis Laukat. More than 40 musicians – aged from ten to 80 – attended seminar sessions.

Richard Howell has been a studio and stage star for decades. The Bay Area jazzman and educator has backed super-star performers and recorded with Etta James, Chaka Khan and Carlos Santana.

Tevis Laukat mastered clarinet during his Sacramento childhood. He has played the Donny and Marie TV show and for Utah Symphony and Mormon Tabernacle Choir performances. In 1996, he and his wife Sheryl founded the Cannonball instrument brand in Salt Lake City. Their horns are sold internationally.

“Because of the COVID experience, the music industry’s had a very difficult time,” noted Tim’s Music owner Scott Mandeville. “To be able to offer in-person clinics again is a thrill for us. Richard Howell told us why music education and creativity matters in our world and why it’s important to get back to practicing and playing again.

“Tevis Laukat’s mission is to provide beautiful, affordable instruments. Both clinicians played for us. We were all inspired by the incredible level of their talent. The youngsters were in awe. Older players reconnected to their creativity.

“Our first in-person clinic in more than two years was a smashing success. Music and music education is a centering experience for people of all ages.”

Tim’s Music educational clinics are free. Attendee donations for food closets are encouraged. The store is located at 6818 Fair Oaks Boulevard, Carmichael.
